Athanasios Bibas CertMath MSc (Audiol) PhD FRCSI (Otol) is Professor and Consultant Surgeon in Otolaryngology at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece.
He has also been a Research Associate and Honorary Reader at the UCL Ear Institute, UK since 2009. He received his Medical Degree in 1990 from the National &Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). He was awarded the Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1996 (FRCSI (Otol)) and his Specialist Certification in Otolaryngology in 1998. He received an MSc in Audiological Medicine from the University College London (1998) and his PhD from the National &Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2000 (Fractal analysis). He has authored multiple papers in peer-reviewed international journals and he is the author of specific chapters in multiple national and international textbooks and books. He is a national representative for Greece for the European Federations of Audiological Societies. He is also Principal Investigator in four Horizon 2020 projects (SMART BEAR, UNITI, REGAIN and EVOTION) and was co-Principal Investigator in 2 FP7 projects (SIFEM and EMBalance). He has also been member of the Management Committee of a Cost Action (TINNET).
His interest in Performing Arts Medicine has leaded him to create in 2014 the first Musicians’ Clinic in Greece as part of the 1st University ENT Department of NKUA, under the grant of Bernice Bibby Research Trust (UK). Since then, more than 400 musicians have been addressed to the Clinic for troubles of their hearing or their voice. He is also the responsible professor of the only Performing Arts Medicine undergraduate course in Greece (elective course, Medical School, NKUA). He has participated as invited lecturer in Advanced schools and international conferences, such as “Human voice: From Science to Art, Singing Arts“ (Athenian Conservatory 2018, 2013).
He plays harmonium and electro-acoustic guitar.
